Life and Dogs

Dogs have been a part of my life for over 30 years now, you never forget any of them. Some have been with you a short time, others much much longer.  Dogs are part of the family, you hear dog owners describe themselves as dog Mam and Dads.

Looking back to the dogs owned by Grandparents, aunts and uncles, there is no

memory of them describing themselves like that. They would say they owned a dog, but never as a dog parent. Social media is filled with pictures of dogs. Dogs being silly, dogs making new friends, even dogs being naughty.

Do you wonder why we are so obsessed with dogs, dogs are companions, service dogs, dogs with jobs, herding dogs. Dogs are very intelligent and quick to learn and please.

Non dog people are surprised why people who have dogs love them so much. Occasionally that question enters my head, why do I love my dogs so much, when one has just rolled in fox poop, a smell you never forget (if this does happen use tomato sauce or tinned tomatoes rubbed in then rinsed, then shampoo) honestly it works.

Or have just ripped apart your favorite book, slippers, shoes, socks, whBen you were out  for an hour,  just working in the garden, just because they can or were bored. Time and again you forgive them when they look up at you with those big brown eyes.

Then you remember when you felt so depressed or unwell and your dog snuggles up to you and listens to you talk and cry without any judgement, then decides you should come and play bed mice or just roll over for a belly rub.

That's why I love dogs.
